Honoring Our Ancestors
On December 26, 1862, the U.S. military lynched 38 Dakota patriots in the largest mass execution in the United States history. On November 7, 1862, a group of 1,700 Dakota, primarily women and children , were forcibly marched from the Lower Sioux Agency to a concertration camp at Fort Snelling.
Join us as we honor our ancestors in sacred fire lighting and ceremony every February at Fort Snelling Park.

Monthly Full Moon Walk
Coldwater Mni Owe Sni (in Dakota, water spring cold) property is a national park. Like most American national parks Coldwater was a Native American sacred site before “the discovery of America.”
Friends of Coldwater seek to honor our ancient water and landscape ancestor. So we return and return each full moon to remember the spirits that feed this sacred place. Full moon walks have been celebrated at Coldwater Springs each month since 2000, that’s more than a quarter of a century of paying attention. Traditional group howl when the moon peeks out.
